Settings for Nikon D300 sigma 8mm 3.5?

I noticed some of you have Nikon D300's, and I just ordered one and will be getting the Sigma 8mm F3.5 per Smooth's suggestions.

For daytime 360x180 panos, I was wondering what settings you like to use on the D300?

I thought I would ask it here so the reponses can be seen by others too.

Thanks..

Why the remote shutter or timer? I have seen some tutorials and they just showed the guy pressing the shutter release manually.

I have seen simple remotes for the Nikon on E-bay....so it is no big deal, just curious.

Well, for one thing your less likely to spend 45 minutes with Photoshop taking your self out of three ( ! ) bathroom mirrors. Want to know how I know it can take 45 minutes?

Agree with Vince. I have a wired remote and will be getting a wireless one. Just have to decide which one! And yes the ones on Ebay are usually OK, at least the price is right so that if it falls apart it's cheap enough to get a new one.
You will also need a remote if shooting in brackets which you probably will if shooting indoors.

Smooth, you recommended using f/8.0, is that because of the Sigma lens? I am using f/11 with the 10.5 per your recommendation.

The sweet spot for the Nikkor 10.5mm is f/11.0 where as the sweet spot of the Sigma 8mm is f/8.0.

The Phottix Cleon wireless remote I can recommend for both Nikon and Canon. Price is right also. Just try not to lose or drop the remote too often (or buy a back-up at the same time).

Manual Shooting Mode (M)
  • Aperture f/8.0
  • ISO 200 or less
  • White Balance "Custom" to match scene
  • Manual Lens Focus (Short of the Infinity Symbol)
  • Basically leave nothing "Auto"
  • Use a remore shutter or at very least the self timer
