10-22 mm Canon vs. Sigma 8 mm

Hello,

I need help with deciding whether or not I can make full 360 panorama's with a 10-22 mm Canon lens. Is using this lens for this purpose problematic? Can I achieve the same level of quality as with the Fisheye lens? I know that most of you here are recommending the Fisheye lens. How many shots would the Canon lens require for a full 360 panorama?

Thanks.

Btw, I use a Canon 40D- if that matters.

Hello Kataya,

You would need to shoot 17 Images.

4 images around 1 every 90 degrees with -60 tilt down, 8 images around 1 every 45 degrees at 0 degrees, 4 images around 1 every 90 degrees with +60 tilt up, and a nadir/down shot.

Where as a Sigma 8mm Fisheye would do the same area with 5 shots. 4 images around at +5 degrees and a nadir/down shot.

You can discount the nadir/down shot if you are going to cap the tripod or clone/heal it away meaning 16 shots for the 10-22mm and 4 shots for the Sigma 8mm Fisheye.

Regards, Smooth
