Which format to use?

Is there a rule of thumb as to what format you should use when shooting your images? For example under what conditions would you use:-

  • Circular Fisheye.
  • Drum Fisheye.
  • Full Frame Fisheye.
  • Cube Face.
  • Wdie angle Zoom.

From looking at the Panoweaver 5 samples the end results all look very similar if not the same!
I personally like the Cube Face so could I stick with this for all my projects?

Many thanks, Steve

Hi Steve

It depends on what lens and camera you are using.

Circular fisheye  3 or 4 images
dSLR full sensor like Canon 5d and Sigma 8
Nikon 99x and Nikkor fisheye lens

Drum fisheye 4 images
dSLR reduced sensor size crop factor 1.5 or 1.6... Canon 20d or similar and Sigma 8

Full frame fisheye 6 images
dSLR reduced sensor size crop factor 1.5 or 1.6.. Nikon with a Nikkor 10.5

Cube Face  might be after you take and stitch your images you can convert your panorama image to a 6 cube face images... patch the nadir (down) and zenith (up) faces and convert back to sphere image.

Wide Angle Zoom.... no clue.

Hope this helps
