Protecting our assets
Anyone successful about protecting jpg pano pictures? I have tried ptcrypt for lots of times but i coulndt start the panoroma.
How can we protect our pano pix assets?
Typically we sell the copyrights of all our panoramas to our clients as a part of the project fee. As a part of the purchase order we get written authorization to use their images on our site. Reciprocating advertising agreement.
If you are taking great panoramas for personal use, Photoshop CS will let you modify the original image EXIF data fields to include (c) copyright information. Or you can watermark your panorama image.
Another way is for a annual fee you can register your images with a company like Digimarc. Once you pay for an account.. you can burn your copyright into the image (not noticable when viewing).
You can view your images only LOCALLY on a CD-r and not put them on the internet.
Even if you watermarked or branded your images for use on the internet, anyone can acquire them for their own use. Policing this is really quite hard to do if not impossible.
You can save your images in JP2000 file format .jp2's. But most browsers do not use .jp2 format yet.
I have used PTCrypt many times with success including .jpa, jpb and jpc.
I will soon write a full tutorial in simple easy to follow instructions so you and others will get the benefit.
Please bare with me for a little while I get my act together.
Lest we forget the infamous IPIX/Ford Oxaal fiasco, where even though Ford's Grand Canyon images were proven to be his own, IPIX sued him for "stealing" art. I suppose anyone could "steal" my images if they wish. Hell, I'd be flattered. But I'd also keep track of their commercial gains. Past a certain point a lawsuit may be more lucrative than the actual work.
Make your weakness your strength.
If one is so inclined to resort to plagarism, one has demonstrated a lack of talent. Sooner or later this dependence on other people's talent will rear it's head. No business based on this model is self-sustaining.
As threatened, I did make a tutorial you may play with it here
If it is of use please let me know then I might just be spurred on do some more as time permits.
Should you find a mistake somewhere please also let me know. I have a tendency to rush things and miss the bleeding obvious at times.
errr, I don't see any professor around here!
Maybe you need Professor Helmut Dersch?
I do not know if it is possible with actions or scripts supplied in Pano Tools? But it would be possible is someone (not me!) was to write such a script. I just do them one at a time if I feel it warranted. It PTCrypt encryption is pretty cool!
