HElp with audacity

Hi Everybody.

I know this might not be the right place to ask but I really don't know what else to do.

I have a VMA (windows media) file that one of my clients want me to include in a tour. It is 222kb and last for 31 sec, but when I open it in Audacity the tune is much shorter. It only last for about 12 sec. Why the heck is that??

I have tried to adjust the speed / length in the program but the result is not very good, and when I export it as a .au file the size is 1,29mb.

I would therefore like to know:

1) why is the melody much faster and much shorter when I open it in audacity?

2) how do I best turn down the speed of the melody?

3) How do I best compress the size of the .au file when I convert it?

I really hope someone can help me.

Best regards

On Audacity, set it to 16 bit, mono and try and see if that works.  You may also want to fiddle around with the 30 day free trial of Adobe Audition that seems to work pretty good.
