Flash is the most widespread player available. To publish in flash means, that nearly all of your customers will be able to see it. To publish as JAVA-applet or Quicktime content means, that a certain amount of potential customers will not be able to see it.

Problem with Flash was, that it had limited ability to display panoramas properly in the past. Since version 8 and the more since version 9, the flash player can do the basic mathematics behind panorama display quick enough and several programmers started to develop flash engines for panoramas.

I would think that JAVA is as wide spread as Flash.

Over 98% of the visitors on a site I check have Java enabled.

Another problem with flash is that a lot of (firefox) users, like me, block flash content automatically because they are usual advertisements.

I have yet to see a decent flash player.  The images don't come closet to Java or Quicktime.

Just my opinion.
