Support Files | .vtp | .tw

To say that I'm MAD, FRUSTRATED, READY TO THROW COMPUTER IN THE FRONT YARD, or what ever term you can come up with, would be an understatement right now.

TW4 needs some major work! To say the least.

I posted in the thread that the file output is not consistent and still have not heard from any one at Easypano what seems to be the problem.

I open a support file this morning to make a change and the scene name is there but no scene image. I then wanted to make another change with another tour and the tour "support file" is no where on my pc...and yes I saved it!

I purchased TW 1.3 pro back in 04 and have purchased every upgrade...now to the tune of around $1,000.00 USD. I am not going to redo every one of these tours in hopes that it will save and work.

Easypano has not answered very many questions about arising problems here. It seems to be left up to Smooth to provide an answer. I do hope that Easypano is providing some type of compensation for his services.

I have downloaded the latest version of TW4...maybe that's the problem. All I know is that I saved the support files and now one of them is not even located on my pc and the others have no scene images showing. Along with the fact that once up on a time when the tour was ready to publish the published files and folders were output however TW wanted to output...no consistency at all.

Please fix this piece of software ASAP. I have a clients that are ready for their product and I can do nothing.

MAN I'M MAD RIGHT NOW!

Off to look for a virtual tour software that works!

While I certainly can agree to this, I would also add that I will not be using the default value or recommend anyone to use it.
I highly recommend using the drop down menu to select .tw then choose file, save as.
When using the default it will save it as a .vtp and a .tw...your file will look like name-of-tour.vtp.tw
Joe did make light of this with saying I was opening an old TW 1.3 file in TW4, which was incorrect. He has also stated that the .vtp function will be removed on the next build (which IMO should have happened as soon as they (folks at Easy P) saw this thread.

Just something more to add in hopes of helping others that may encounter this problem.

Tremendous, useful, aw inspiring post Smooth, I believe that earns five stars.

Dave,
This is why I try my best to give detail to the thread subject. It really helps with searching.

Hi Pixel,

Mate, I feel the pain and frustration. Been there plenty of times myself.

I'm not sure I understand what is happening and I think what you are calling "Support Files" are actually your "Project Files"?

I would take a look at it and see if it will publish OK for me on my computer to see if it is something local to your machine. For this I will require a download link to the complete project file and it's full components I.E: Images etc.

Maybe your saves have ended up in the default folder C:\Program Files\Easypano\Tourweaver 4.00 Professional Edition\Workspace

If you haven't given them a name they will default save as Project1, Project2 etc and there will be two (2) files the .tw and a matching named folder (with contents).

Take a deep breath and lets see if we can sort your issue out by working through it.

Regards, Smooth

Hey Smooth,

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

First it is the Project File. In TW4 I actually saved the files twice. Once clicking on the save icon along with choosing File, Save As.

I save my tours with their assigned names in assigned folders. I do not use the default of "Project 3" located in the TW workspace folder.

While I do appreciate your help (A LOT) seems that someone from Easypano would be on here reading all the complaints about TW4 and offering a worthwhile update.

I do hope that you are being compensated by Easypano, if not I would not blame for pulling another disappearing act. Let me know though so I don't have to make another phone call to Australia

LINK FOR .ZIP TOUR it may take a minute as it is 13MB

Hi pixelator !

I'm also not sure of what's happening with your projects, but I have to tell you that I agree with you in some points but not all of them :

I think it's quite logic that if you have created a virtual tour using TW 1.3, cannot expect it working in TW4, because many functions have change, because probably many code have change inside...
This soft is not very stable, but good soft like 3d Studio Max, also report problems when opening older version files...
So I think you should understand this point, and cannot complain about this
Anyway if you want to republish them with TW4 is because you want to add some new functions, like transparent map, or pop-up window, or whatever new feature, so I would suggest you to rebuild them from the begginig...

I hope you had copies of that projects in order not to have lose nothing, this is something I learned very quickly with this always unestable software made in china, and I always save as, or just make a new copy...

I also have felt many times MAD and FRUSTRATED, because this soft always breaks what I attempt to do...

I feel very dissapointing that EasyPano makes an update when it's not working, because they are selling something that you cannot use, so somehow they are cheating us...

I upgraded from TW3 to TW4 in the 26th of august, just the next day it was the first BETA version, one of the first I'm sure... I still cannot use it once for a professional job, because of many issue (that have been stated in many other posts), and this is something we should not allow to happen anymore...

If you think about switching to other soft, then you should be careful, because you will not find any GUI that can make what this TW3 last version could do...

Everything is possible and stable but then you have to code it and with your own technological support

I cannot writte down what other soft is around there, otherwise this would be considered spam, and it's not my willing, I also want to be listened by EP team and get ASAP what I've payed for...Maibe the problem is that this would happen to late...

I would never throw my computer, but I would with

Jordi,

I need to take this time to clarify that I created the tours at question with TW4. I was merely stating that I have been a loyal customer since 2004 when I purchased TW 1.3

As far as hoping that I had copies of these tours...this is my problem! I create the tour in TW4 and save. This gives you the .vtp or .tw file that you can then open and make changes. What I have discovered is that when I opened the tour file that is posted in this thread, it seems it did not save correctly. The scene name is visible but the scene is not. Also the transition effect is on default (none) instead of fade in fade out like I saved it.

As far as switching software I have spent entirely too much money on TW to simply throw it out and remove it from my computer. I have today looked at Flash Panoramas and signed up on their forum. It looks like you need to know .xml and how it works to use it. The cost is $55.00 USD (A HEAP SITE CHEAPER THAN TW4 AT $799.95)

Pano2VR is also available to produce flash based tours. The cost for this software is $107.00 USD (AGAIN A FAR CRY CHEAPER THAN TW).

The point that I'm trying to make here is that Easypano has out priced their competitors by hundreds of dollars. I would think that by spending the extra $ would return a better product than the latest one I downloaded.

As far as support on this forum goes I have to ask, did you submit a ticket? I don't think that user levels have anything to do with getting answers. As far as being a moderator on this forum, I'm sure they have seen better days.

What I'm most bothered by (on this forum) is that it is always left up to one or two (mostly one, Smooth) to come running to everyones aid. While I do GREATLY APPRECIATE Smooth, it is not his responsibility to always come to the rescue.

This is not the first and only discussion that no one from Easypano has posted to. I mean at least post something like... we are sadden by your troubles and we are working on correcting the issues (don't kid yourselves, there are lots!).

It is my hope that with the money I have invested in this software, I can produce and save a virtual tour...SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

Hello Jordi,

As it stands I believe there are 3 independent moderators, Myself (Smooth), Dave (360Texas) and Rob (phoenixrising) in Germany and of the three only myself and Dave are active and have been so since 2002 the start of this forum. Our job firstly is to control "spam" and delete accounts that promote porn, non related sales and the like. Attempt to control attacks from one member to another and generally keep things on topic. On top of these active moderators are Easypano staff.

Second to that at our own free will and desire, help people out if we have the time that have been pleasant and non abrasive in there requests for help. Those who ask nicely and are appreciative are more likely to receive a reply. It has nothing to do with forum "rankings". It is also helpful if the request is clear and understandable. The forum is a public place for the users and potential users of Easypano software.

Being a moderator doesn't mean we are at the beck and call of all users. Easypano has support avenues to help you with specific questions and or problems. Moderators will do our best to steer people to topics and answers if we have time. Dave and I have dedicated many hours over many years to this forum with limited time. We have seen Easypano grow from a small front end for PTViewer to what it is today. We are not paid staff, we are software users just like you.

Over the last couple of months many Russian spam accounts have been deleted (multiples most days) who are attempting to laden this forum with porn and software spam. This takes away the time we have to help people with specific issues.

I hope this has cleared things up for you.

Regards, Smooth

Matt,

I have download your file. Problem is this is NOT a "Project File" it is your "Publish File". It concerns me that you have offered up this file and again makes me think that you don't quite understand something in the file structure and saving options of Tourweaver.

I mentioned once before I felt that maybe you are saving your project file and publish file to the very same directory. This is not a good practice if this is in fact what you are doing. (Especially if they have the exact same name!) You end up with this > projectpublish

I would suggest you make (2) folders one called "Projects" and  one called "Publish" and with these folders save your tours. So your directories would end up looking like this:

  • Projects (Folder)
    • Tour 1 (Main Folder)
      • project1.tw
      • project1 (sub folder)
    • Tour 2 (Main Folder)
      • project2.tw
      • project2 (sub folder)

Above is where you would save your project files using the File>Save As option within Tourweaver.

  • Publish (Folder)
    • Tour 1 (Main Folder)
      • tour_1.html
      • Tourweaver_tour_1.html
      • twviewer.swf
      • swfobjects.js
      • tour_1 (sub folder)
    • Tour 2 (Main Folder)
      • tour_2.html
      • Tourweaver_tour_2.html
      • twviewer.swf
      • swfobjects.js
      • tour_2 (sub folder)

Above is where you would save your publish files using the Publish option within Tourweaver. (after setting the output path)

Obviously the "Project" is everything that makes up the tour to be (or can be) edited at anytime now or in the future. The (folder) contains all the images and components. The actual .tw file is just the written set of instructions on how it all goes together (assembly instructions).

The "Publish" file is everything to either be played locally, burned to the CD or uploaded to your server for Internet display.

Now what I have just written may of may not be your issue but I wanted to make it clear for others who are reading this thread.

What I'm thinking is that if you have accidentally (or on purpose) save both the Project and Publish files to the very same directory you will end up with a "strange" file structure because some files will overwrite others with the same names. (you get my drift?)

So, upload me your "Project Files" and I will continue the testing.

Regards, Smooth

Just a comment and my thoughts on Virtual Tour software compilers.

Whilst many other products exist. (yes I have them) they are "all" based on .xml scripting. Obviously knowing how to build your own .xml allows for greater build options and also publishing options.

The thing is Tourweaver is the ONLY "easy" way to compile a virtual tour worth publishing within it's known limitations. It is the "easy" part you are paying for with Tourweaver. If it was "easy" to incorporate a GUI into this type of software then all the others would do so. But simply this is not the case. Compiling a GUI (Graphic User Interface) for so many variables is very (in fact extremely) difficult and this is why other software developers lag behind in this department. It is also the reason why bugs, annoying issues and frustrations are so hard to give a quick fix or answer too.

Easypano cop a hard bagging with every version release of their software because it is just about impossible to test every variable possible. in fact users attempt things that haven't even been thought of when developing. That said, over all the years I have been involved as a user in the end after updates, bug fixes and work arounds we always end up with usable software streets ahead of any opposition with a GUI.

If you are not happy and can't get past the limitations or development period, become a coder and use another program.

Easypano software is for the non coders among us and for the most part does the job quite well.

I like you look forward to the bug fixes and implementation of new features.

Regards, Smooth

Many thanks to Smooth and Dave for their years' help to Easypano. They've witnessed the growing up of Easypano into a leading Virtual Tour Software provider in the world.

To pixelator,

vtp file is the format for Tourweaver 1.3, so only when you want to open the preject file created by Tourweaver 4.00 in Tourweaver 1.3 can you choose this format for saving your project, but you should be aware that you will lose all those features lack in Tourweaver 1.3 if you want to reopen this vtp file in Tourweaver 4.00. I've suggesed our programmer removing this option in next update, and only tw format will be available for saving the project. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As to your tour in this thread, I see no problem as it is proved here. You may have selected None for Progress Style in the Properties of Scene Viewer so after the tour is fully loaded, you have to wait for a while without any indication, and the transition effect is none either. If this tour was published after you'd saved its project file into vtp format, it is normal that a lot of features will disappear as I've mentiioned above. Please remember to save your project file as tw or default format unless you want to use it in Tourweaver 1.3.

This forum serves as a flatform where our customers can exchange their points fo view and share experience, which has been proved successful with the help of many enthusiastic customers, greatly attributed to Smooth and Dave. If our customers run into problem unresolved, they may contact our support guys here during our working hours. Thank you for your understanding.

Joe Rao
