Has anyone used this lens?

Can panoweaver stitche images taken with this lens?

This is an interesting lens. Quite big with an even bigger price. I found on for sale at $1800.

Link to lens specs:

Just curious about this lens. Any comments.

Yes, very big price tag !

I will have to put that one on the wish list.

As far as optics goes from what I have read about the lens it is superior to sigma and the FC-E8/E9 and even the Coastal optics lens---Now Coastal has got a REALLY big price tag...yikes.

Do you think the Nikon lens would be worth the investment assuming price was not a factor.

Even though the price is high if the lens can produce higer quality hemis then you end up with a better pano and mabey an easier workflow...mabey?

Or is the sigma or FC lens close enough in quality to not justify the much higer price?

Extremely nice high quality lens that has been out of production for many, many years.

Will only fit Nikon mount cameras.

If you have a Nikon and you have unlimited money you should buy one. (Be very careful to have the lens checked for faults and fungus as they are old.)

For the rest of us the Sigma 8mm or the Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye will provide nice panoramas for Internet display.

Regards, Smooth

Hi VT360,

I missed this post for some reason. LOL

The way I understand it the Nikkor 8mm will fit any camera with a nikon"F" mount but I think this depend son when the lens was made. There are several versions of the lens. The older versions being non compatable with the new F series cameras made beginning in the late 70's

Gen. Lee.

The link http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/fisheyes/8mmf28.htm

which is also on the first post has all you need to know ie the AI-s version with serial no 243001 onwards will work on any Nikon  or Canon (with an adapter) DSLRs . It is a work of art producing sharp images with little if any light fall-off. The lens coating is pre-digital and therefore not as good as that found on the Nikon 10.5mm at minimising lens flare in the sun or under bright lights. Its' edge resolution and colour correction however, is superior. Main disavantage is size and weight. Agnos now make a ring for it which works quite well, before that I relied on my own custom made bracket. I personally presently prefer to use the Sigma  8mm 3.5 for everyday work due to its smaller size and weight. You can be lucky (as I was) and get them for much less than $2400.

Simon
