OK, I just got a new complete Coolpix 5000 full camera set up with a FC-E8 lens and a IP*X 2-shot rotator.  Is there anybody that has used this set up and can tell me what are the best settings for this camera set up.  Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

Thanks

MVA

Start with the following settings

  • Manual Mode F8 Aperture and use the inbuilt light meter to adjust the shutter speed to match.
  • F1 (Fisheye 1) Lens setting.
  • Sharpening On
  • AE Lock on for each pair or set of images for each pano set
  • White Balance set to suit the lighting conditions

That should get you started.

3 shot I find much better than 2 shot. But this would require perhaps a different panorama head. In this case I recommend the Agnos MrotatorA.

On most any other camera system, should you use F8 Aperture with indoors shooting?

My other camera system, I set the Aperture at F2.8.  Would F8 give me a much better picture?

The only problem with the system I purchased is the camera does not have a manual and I am trying to get fimilar with this model.

Can you give me a little more detial with the inbuilt light meter?

One more idea, on the IPIX rotator, what would keep me from making three marks around the rotator giving me 3 stopping points to shoot 3 shoot images with?  Do you think that would work.

Thanks for your help.

Hi We use an iP*X rotator on one of our set ups and you dont really need to make any marks on the rotator or anything and dont have to be exact when doin a 3 shot image. We just line the first shot up roughly with one of the tripod legs then turn to next tripod leg etc, and that has worked for us. I think also the higher you set you aperture ie F8 then the more of the image will be in focus.

Yes, F8 or higher is correct for both indoor or outdoor shooting. This allows for almost all objects to be in clear focus. Smaller aperture's will focus on the closest object and throw all objects behind out of focus. The further away the more out of focus it becomes.

Instructions on the inbuilt light meter are covered in the owners manual. But basically you see the light meter setting on your LCD screen. You need to align for correct exposure by meeting (lining up) to the centre mark (0) from there it is easy to know or to set up for over and under exposure shots should you need them.
