I've been looking at my website's statcounter... and I noticed something...
For the past month there has been an IP address with a host name inktomisearch.com coming to my page almost weekly.

Another IP that has ISP "Microsoft Corp" that spent 9 hours a day.

What are those things? Are they some kind of automated search or something?

thanks.

Inktomi is a search engine spider - belongs to Yahoo I believe.

The Microsoft Corp is more than likely their MSN search engine.

They are some of the many search engine spiders (bots) that roam the internet looking for information. They are relatively harmless.

If you start seeing thousands of hits a day from the same ip, or for the same single file - then you can start worrying about bandwidth theft.
