the author claims he can set up a d200 with a nikkor fisheye lens

and get a full circle image.

he claims the setup should be around $300 usa dollars.

if u look a his demo, u can see the soft edges.

anybody got an idea abuot what this $300 dollar set up is?

It says "This is a legacy Nikon fisheye lens at work."

Makes me wonder if its like this relay system with a $2000 nikkor 8mm lens http://www.muellerworld.com/peleng/

Or of course you can use the agnos.com adaptor to stick an fc-e9 lens on your slr lens.

Or drop $4000 on a coastal optics 4.8mm fisheye.

Or I have seen someone who scred a raynox screw on fisheye onto a lens on a pentax dslr and got great results from a tricky setup.

Or someone could buy the book and let us know :)

The set up is around $300 so I doubt that is the  coastal.

I dont think the book is finished and released yet.

$300 but camera gear not included. Which depending on your definition of camera gear could mean anything.

But they do keep talking about a "legacy nikon optic" which does suggest they have just found a good lens combination which can focus on the image from and fc-e8 or fc-e9 but who knows.

heres a quote from the person who stuck a raynox on a dslr, I don't know if he achieved a full circle but I assume so? I though it was a particularly intersesting combination.

Hard to tell what equipment he was using.

Although, looking at the nadir star.. he took 4 images.. you can see the 4 seams in the bottom of the sphere.

dave,

this tour

http://www.abolais.nl/centrl-e.htm

belongs to zxc forum member, who posted above u.

what we're discussing is what lens set up this author is

using with the d200. in the link below he mentions he gets full circular fisheye images with his d200 and a nikkor lens.

Oh dear,
no its not my tour
Yes we are discussing the digitalsecrets circular pictures.

The tour I posted is copied from a forum elsewere. I copied it over as an example of a technique which might be similar to what the digitalsecret people are doing. ie sticking a screw on fisheye to the front of a slr lens.

Ok I skip read through the digitalsecretes page.  Yes.  I have no clue what lens he is using to get the fisheye views.

I had seen this thread earlier this morning.

I had a brief chat with Mac over in India.  They just bought a d200 and use the Sigma 8mm on it.  And no he does not get full circle image on the sensor like the Canon 5d.

So.. maybe the one of the older not now in production Nikon lenses.  Can't be a FC-E8 with a step down lens ring ? Hmmm  gotta think about this.

The FC-E8 would be around $200 and then the lens rings .. maybe rounded up to $300.

Why do we care? If you can afford the D200 you can afford a decent lens.

If you only wish to make single circular images for print, well ok maybe! But the quality is not that good.

For what it's worth I think it is a FC-E9 with adaptor. But again why would anyone care?

Regards, Smooth

True

Other than learning about it - nothing else
