I'd like to thank Dave over at 360Texas.com for inviting me to this forum.  We virtual tour efficianados MUST stick together!  8 )

I posed a question to Dave the other day:

On the Panoweaver website, under Gallery for the Panoweaver 4.0 product, the first virtual tour is for Real Estate and the equipment is the Nikon D70 & Sigma 8 MM F4 EX Fisheye Lens.

The image is clean, crisp, without any noticable distortion.

I was wondering how many shots that vtour took, and if I can expect similar quality with my Nikon Coolpix 8400, and FC-E9 Fisheye Lens.

As a brand new Panoweaver purchaser, I appreciate being a part of this message board, and look forward to your insights.

Probably not. Thinks to consider.
Dslrs like the d70 have greater dynamic range and better lenses than your coolpix. They also save the pictures much faster while shooting.

But you setup is still fairly good and much of how good the final image looks is down to postprocessing and carefull sharpening.

When shown in a small window like this the quality of the setup is less of an issue so the difference between yours and these will be minimised.

Distortion is generall not from the taking of the shots but from how far in the point of view is set. If very wide angle you will see the sides distort. These tours are zoomed in some way so you get more of a natural undistorted view. Your setup can do this as can any, its not determined by the camera.

So basically yes you can be that undistorted but not as sharp and clear. But with care you can get pretty close, and it a small window the difference will me not huge.

Welcome to the forum Darren - Zucchini ?

Yes dSLR's have a larger sensor size - more pixels, higher dynamic range (more color hues) more detail.

Dave's axiom - Bigger is Always better !!

Dear zxcvbnm,

Okay fine.

What if I said "please"? Will that do it?

Please?

Now can expect similar quality? 8 )

Distortion- yes you can get that level of non distortion.

Clear and crisp- no you can't get that level of clarity and crispness. But you can get close and in a small viewer it won't be very noticable.

I appreciate the posts everyone!

I was impressed with the amount of knowledge in this forum, gained some perspective on shot to shot color correction, new panaromic methods, and basic vocabulary.  I have also started to get the idea that a photoshop clean up should be done for every quality vtour...
