Does anyone know if a site exists where you can check how much computers worldwide or per country have java, flash and/or QuickTime installed? Just out of curiosity, and to have some proof when I tell a client that java really is installed on most computers.

should we make the move to the flash viewer then?

i know there are some viewing issues with it and the rendering distortion is

not as good as java or quicktime.

Maybe start thinking about it. But if you look at the flash breakdown figures
http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/version_penetration.html

flash version 8 which you need for spherical panos is at about 90% the same as java.

That said if you use either java or quicktime it probably makes more sense to offer flash as a backup alternative as most people will have both java and quicktime or neither. Particularly if you consider the amount of java installations that are old ones that don't work reliably with modern pano viewers. Flash is also much easier to install if you don't have it than the others.

My experience is that just the word "flash" i very hype in Denmark. Many web masters and developers love flash. I believe that it might be easier to sell standalone panoramas as flash files
