I was going through msn today and found some cool pics taken in 87.

The photographer was able to have the subject well lighted but the

surrounding darker. I know there was plenty of light in those rooms, so

im wondering how he made then darker at the edges.

Im wondering if this was done in photoshop or if the picutures were taken

like that from the begining using special camera settings. And how is done.

even on the stage, he got this effect. And you know that the stage is a very well

lit area all around.

Foreground lighting.  Probably a single 100 watt light bulb.. with a cone type reflector.  Sort of sets up a bulls eye burst of light.

You get nearly the same affect using a speed light flash attachment pointed directly at the subject.. with about 50% flash power.  The camera should be able to pre flash and predict the distance and only give you a what you need to get the correct exposure.  Tricky with older 35mm film cameras.  Not so with digitals like D70, Canon's etc

yeah, you seem to be onto something.

i was reading on this and it says they put an aluminum foil around the reflector.  kinda like a sheet of paper size and you wrap it around the reflector.

now i gotta figure out the camera settings!
