Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone has displayed a pano in a video. We are creating a video and would like to include some of the panoramas we currently have. In the video we want an effect of spinning around the room. Just a quick 360 shot spin around. Anyone ever done this?

I have not seen a functioning panorama embedded inside a video.  I suspect you might be able to do this in Shockwave.

Here is an example of what we would like to do.

Utah Housing Video

Take a look at the video from about 1:31 - 1:36 the video spins 360 (they do this a few other times too, like at 1.48, 2.04, 2.17). My guess is this was done with the video camera... but it would be great if we could replicate it with panos we have.

Ok.. its all done in Flash.    I did see the short clips of spinning around the different rooms.   I think what they might have done is  created the panorama in the normal fashion.  Then took a movie clip while displaying the panorama on a standard monitor.  Simple and effective approach to showing the dormatory spaces.

The whole flash movie is streaming.  And in my opinion is a bit tacky, using insterted bits of old movie world splicing transitions.  They want to show the University of Utah's student housing.  Those transitions are quite distracting.

Dave,

How funny, you said:

"They want to show the University of Utah's student housing. Those transitions are quite distracting."

That is exactly what the professional filming our video said, he didn't like the old camera look either.

Thanks for looking at the video. I think the whole video is Flash because it is on Google Video (uploading to that site converts the source video to flash I think, just like YouTube). But your suggestion about how they did it might be right on, it does look like they started with a pano.

in my opinion,

it's a video camera mounted on a tripod with a panhead.

they just panned the room with the camera.

Update on this topic:

I figured out a way to do what I asked.

We used Camtasia software to record a full screen pano in auto rotation. Camtasia then lets me save as an .AVI file format to be included in the video.

Kevin,

I dont know if this is helpful. But this is what I have done.

Make a panorama on the regular way.

Convert it in to a video (new function in TW2) and finally embedded in the video.

I have play with panorama video a couple of months ago (in realviz), and produced this video.

To view the panoramas, used in this video, look @ http://www.dd-web.nl/stjanstest

Regards,

Harry.

Harry,

That is very cool! I have realviz before... but don't use it now as much.

Do you think TW 2.0 could do what you did here? I'll have to try it!

Hi,

we have done this with a standard 3D-App (3DS MAX). It is very comfortable, because you can adjust the zooms, pans and tilts interactively and render out any video-format you like.

Best regards

Michael
