I'm guessing I'm not the first to do this, but I haven't seen it elsewhere, so I thought I'd share:

The problem with the default load bar is that there is no indicator telling them when they'll be done. I bascially created a little box that contains the load bar, so people could tell how far it has to go. For a nice visual effect, I made the background load bar 1 pixel bigger than the actual load bar:

Actually, I just came up with another idea. Rounded edges! This was a screen cap taken while an actual pano was loading:
