EDIT: Thanks for all of the suggestions and here is what I decided for my first Virtual Tour purchase. Any feedback on this would be gladly appreciated before I actually follow through w/ the purchase. The only thing that I'm somewhat concerned about and not sure is which Panohead to get? Does anyone have any experience w/ the 302Plus Quicktime VR Plus Kit? That was highly recommended by the people over at the camera store where I got my price quotes, but I'm not quite sure about their knowledge of virtual tour equipment. Thanks for all the feedback so far guys.

Below is the list of camera equipment:
Nikon COOLPIX 8400 - $900
302Plus Quicktime VR Plus Kit - $425
Nikon Fisheye FC-E9 - $269
Nikon Ring Adapter for COOLPIX 8400 URE16 - $25
Standard Tripod - FREE

TOTAL: $1,619

*******************************************

Since I'm undecided as to what to get exactly for my first Virtual Tour purchase, I'd like to know what type of camera equipment everyone is using (i.e. camera mount, lens, tripod, adapter, camera, etc.) That way I can get some ideas. This kind of leads me to my next 2 part question.

01. Which camera equipment would any of you guys suggest purchasing to create 2 fisheye image & stitch? This would include camera mount, lens, tripod, adapter, camera, and anything else necessary.

02. Who has the best prices either online or stores?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Ricky W.

Hi,

For Panos:
* Nikon Coolpix 4300 (since 4500 is no longer in production); this works great!
* Nikon UR-E7 converter
* Nikon FC-E8 Fisheye lens
* Jasper Engineering Panohead
* Bogen 3001Pro tripod
* Bogen 3265 Trigger Grip Head

For stills used in Tourweaver:
* Nikon D70
* Nikkor 18-70mm DX lens
* Nikon SB800 flash

Spare batteries and media for each camera.

I get my stuff only from reputable dealers such as One Call, BH Photo, or J&R.

Thanks,
eagle

We have used our 2 trusty Coolpix 950s for well over 4 years now!! (Maybe a digi SLR update will happen once I see Panoweaver V4!!) Mated to FC-E8 for sphericals and WC-E24 for rectis. Head is Kiadan's Kiwi 900/950 with a leveller. Velbon and Silk tripods used. I cannot justify updating to anything other than a SLR as even a Coolpix 8700 will produce only slightly better results than my 950s when going on the web. And believe me I have used my workflow on my mate's 8 megapixel Coolpix's images, then compared the same, shot with a 950 and the difference is negligable!!  So, I guess my advice is buy a Coolpix definate and go for the best you can afford. Even if only a 990/995. Results will be good if you have the right workflow. Just ask Texas Dave!!

Oh alright guys,  I think that was funny .  Here is what we are using:

We have Nikon 990 #1 and Nikon 990 #2  and Canon 20d

We use 2 Nikkor FC-E8 for Nikon 1 &2  and Canon Sigma 8

We also have Nikkor WC-24mm and E63 and Canon 28-135mm IS UL

We have 2  Kaidan Kiwi990's and 1 Kaidan Kiwi+

However we find the Canon 20d fits nicely on a Kiwi990 pan head

Then we use 2 Kaidan Quick Levelers

For Tripods we have modified 2 Velbron's and 1 Manfrotto 3001d

Then we use alot compact flash cards the largest for the 990's is 128mb and Canon is 256mb.  We are considering getting a couple of larger CF's for the Canon because you can only put 27 RAW images on the 256 and we are shooting 25 or 30 pano's on our Mexico photoshoot next March.

Here is the Canon on a Kiwi990 rig on a Manfrotto.

Hope that helps

Dave

Forget the 302Plus. If you must buy Manfrotto buy the 303SPH all the others get too much of the head in the frame (photo)

Better still visit www.agnos.com and buy a MrotatorB and support to match the 8400.

The prices are HIGH the 8400 sells in Australia for $900 Australian dollars that's around $700 USD so shop around for a better deal. You will require more then a "Standard" tripod also. Something with a bit of weight! and don't forget a quality "Tilt leveller" the Manfrotto #222 or Kaidan Quick Tilt are both worth consideration.

Regards, Smooth
