I'm new to all this (just got my equipment in the mail today) so this may be a dumb question but here goes..
If I choose Java Applet as the format for my Panorama, and I then upload it to a website, will the average web site visitor have to download special viewing software or will it 'just work'?
I dont want to confuse the issue here, but I have just come back from a demo where the images where not able to be seen on the clients machine (I believe as he was not up-to-date with his JRE)
He had Win 98 and MS Explorer 5: Could my assumption be correct that he would not have had JRE installed as we only saw a rude red square instead of the pano?
There are currently over 70 flavors of Java Runtime Engine being developed for almost every platform from UNIX to the operating systems for PDA's. The JRE is a software module that your browser uses to handle the animations and special affects you experience on various websites. These can be any function from drop down menues to popup pages.
The leading browsers like Internet Explorer and Netscape have their own or use a propriatory module like Sun's Version 2.0 Java Engine build 1.3.1. Sun has a beta out 1.4.0 but it still has a few bugs and does not work well with PTViewer Scripter.
Typically, Sun's JRE does not work well with MSIE.
Hope that helps

I just talked to a friend who could not see my pano. They are using MSIE ver 6. When I check on my two machines I can see it fine. Both my machines are using MSIE ver 6. Could a firewall or pananoid IE security settings be blocking the Pano from displaying?
Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is excluded in Windows XP intentionally by Microsoft, so anyone who use Win XP should install Microsoft JVM manually before any Java Applet can be run in his IE. Microsoft JVM can be downloaded at http://www.easypano.com/download/msjavx86.exe
As far as I've experienced, the only time that "rude red square" appears is when there's an error in the link to the targeted image file, thereby preventing the applet from locating the image file. Check the accuracy of the link within the applet code:
<PARAM name = pano0 value = "{file=../goethe21w/images/4787.jpg}">

Every moment is a learning experience. What have I learned today? What have I taught today?
To do this go to Tools>Internet Options>Advance Tab>Microsoft VM>Jit compiler for virtual machine enabled (needs to be checked!) This requires restart.
