Agno's Equipment has released his recent panorama head product called Agno's Rings.

They enhance the the photographers ability to quickly determine the NO PARALLAX point of the lens thereby greatly improving your final panorama.

Rings are currently for Sigma 8, Nikkor 10.5 and the out of production Nikon 8mm f2.8 used on Nikon ,Canon, Fuji dSLR's.

I hope to report on these along with the new MrotatorHDelta Telescopic Pole in the next couple of weeks.

Good to see the adoption of the NNP (No Parallax Point) terminology instead of the incorrect Nodal Point.

Agnos has been setting the standard on products for use with Panoweaver and panorama software in general. These new additions are bound to be a great addition to the already impressive line up.

The "Rings" look to be a great alternative and allow you to keep the Fisheye lens permanently affixed to the correct NNP. You will note that you can also "upgrade" your MrotatorT panohead to adopt these new "Ring" fittings also.

It must be said the use of "Rings" is not desirable to the heavy cameras such as the Canon 1D, 1Ds or 5D or any camera you have fitted a battery extension to. This extra weight "could" be too much load on the lens gripping "Ring" design.

Use with the lighter cameras such as the Canon 300D, 350D and Nikon D50, D70 is fully recommended.

Idle thoughts, http://www.bophoto.com deserves a fair amount of credit with revitalising this approach with his wooden rings.

The heavier pro camera would assume they might be dangled off the back of a telepoto lens with a collar tripod mount so should be able to be dangled ok. How well the lens itself would cope is harders to know.

If you look at these two pictures of the bophoto ones in use it does actually look more sensible a concept than you might think, no one has yet reporter any trouble using a 10.5mm nikon with a 5d hanging off the back.

nikon 10.5mm on 5d here

I do wonder if they have allowed for any tilt in the sigma ring. Just a few degrees back would cover you zenith and leave just a small hole at the bottom were the rotator is. If it is facing dead forward it will be harder to cover the zenith exactly.

The Bo-Photo design comes directly from the Agnos MrotatorA design. In fact Bo made comments on this very forum many years ago.

He was all about the smaller footprint and was asking if people here were interested.

A forum search will most likely turn up the whole story.

Credit goes to Agnos even "if" the thoughts were independent the Mrotator was on the market well before anything Bo released.

the Agno's Rings look like a good design but still need to take handheld shot for nadir and zenth.

You CAN take images of the zenith and nadir using the Agnos ring when fitted to a MrotatorT series panohead no problem. The MrotatorT allows you to turn the camera/lens into 90 degrees both up and down.

Why did you think you couldn't?

Maybe he was thinking about this one which is installed on the Mrotator TB. Typically it would only rotate around on the horizon.

True though you could argue that the agnos ones were inspired by the original ipix rings for the sigma 8mm and nikkor 8mm back in the days of two shot film cameras and the later fc-e8 grips. And even those could be seen as a logical progression of lens collars.

But actually that was not what I was thinking of. My opinion is that when people suggested a ring on a slr lens it was pointed out that ipix moved to cradles and it was assumed it was an impractical idea. But once bophoto made them there was proof and it was clear it was feasible and increased public demand for agnos development. Of course who knows what would have happened, perhaps agnos would have developed them now anyway but I believe it would have taken them longer without, though who knows but that is my opinion.
