PTViewer is a java applet developed with Java language.
Java 1.1 applet support only one sound format: 8 bit, µlaw, 8000
Hz, one-channel, Sun ".au" files. You can use "Cooledit" to convert
sound files into au format, which can be downloaded at
http://www.syntrillium.com/download/download.html?1 . Please do refer to
this zip file on how to convert sound files to au format. Also refer to sample file on how to use sound files in an PTViewer Virtual Tour with PTViewer Scripter.

Hi Seaman,

OK, once the files are converted, how do I place the command
in the script? I don't have PTscripter, and your probably
going to tell me to go buy it- right? LOL. Up until now, I've been looking
at Helmut's site, and hand-coding everything.

I've tried this:
<PARAM name=sound0 value="$thisfolderurl$EQ.au" Playsound(0)>
and many other variations.

Is this meant for a short sound, or an entire song with vocals?

The only other way that I've been successfull in adding sound is
outside the pt-applet using streaming .swf

Could you show us an example of a panarama with sound?

TIA,
Spongebob

It does not matther whether it is a short sound or an entire song with vocals. but there are some problems with your hand coding.  To used a sound file as background. it should be something like:

<PARAM name = sound0 value = "***.au">
<PARAM name = inits value = "ptviewer:PlaySound(0)">

 Please  refer to the sample here.

Seaman, 2 questions:

How can the timing of when the sound plays be controlled?? I have tried several demos and have found that when online, the sound sometime plays before the pano loads, sometime during and sometimes after. Can this be controlled somehow to make sure the pano loads before the sound plays??

Can you possibly show us a sample of launching a .au sound file from a html text or image (ie button) link??

Hi Ian,

What you are attempting to do is 'Time' the start of the audio.  You might consider delaying the panorama display instead.

In Professor Dersh's info paper he describes a funtion parameter called 'waittime'.  This is the minimum time to display the 'wait' image in milliseconds (default is 0).  This is useful if an animated gif-image is used and the animation should finish before the display of the panorama.

In this instance we are delaying the the display of the panorama until the audio is downloaded and playing.

Just a thought

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that. I specifically wanted to achieve the opposite and have the pano load then the audio d/l and play.

Not much difference... it is the sychronization of audio and panorama you need to have occur.  And delaying the pano until the audio is available is the same end result.  Only issue now is for you to determine how long it takes to get the audio available to hear.

The other option would be to embed the audio in a Flash image (10:1 file size reduction) Wav to mp3.  Coupled with a mouse over to activate the audio.. you let the visitor decide when to hear the sound.
