Can anyone tell me why, when I assemble my panos in TW they all have a very marked jagged effect on diagonal edges. By this I mean as the viewer pans round any diagonals appear as a series of offset straight lines (if that makes sense). There is a terrible shimmering of all edges when panning.

I have checked out other members panos which are alot better than mine using similar setup (I have 350d, sigma 8mm, MTCPS). I have stitched using PW and PTgui both of which appear very well stitched and clear as a still pano.

I assume its something to do with image size but cant figure it out.

My Panos are ca. 800K and 3000x1500px. Even at bigger file sizes they dont appear as good as yours Markus.

Do the images appear better when viewed on a web page ie is the TW Preview a low resolution sample? Would they be better when published to a website?

All digital images will appear better when they are at a resolution that's equal to the screen resolution. If your image is too big, then it will be resized. The interpolation method that is chosen will affect the image quality.

I am not all that familiar with how panos are resized (is it done in TW or does the browser do it? I don't know), but the principle is the same. Your monitor is only capable of displaying at 72dpi. Large images have more information (pixels) than the monitor can display and many pixels will be disregarded. On the other hand, if an image is smaller than the viewable size, then pixels will be duplicated, which also negatively affects the image quality.

I'm not sure what it is, but there's probably an ideal size (pixel dimensions not actual file size) depending on the intended viewable size (a small window vs. full-screen).

Thanks so does anyone know what the optimum size is for say a 400x300 screen?

Finally I need to get photoshop but cant afford the full cs version. Does anyone know if PS Elements will do mirrorball extension and other necessary functions etc.

For a 400 x 300 viewer I would suggest 1400 x 700 or 1500 x 750.

These settings a proved and tested by many users over a long period of time.

Sorry to bring this back up but Istill have problems with diagonalsand edges, even when viewing the flat pano jpeg image. (If its bad on the jpeg then it will of course be bad when viewed spherical) Diagonal lines appear jagged and illdefined. I think the problem comes down to basic photography in the first place maybe

I am using 350d on Hi res (8Mp), aperture priority f8, man focus infinity, man white bal - everything Ive read about but no where near as good as yours Markus (and smooth)

Any ideas please
