I created a tour from 24 shots (8 sets of bracketed 3 exposures) i was very impressed with the result, but not in the time taking and post processing the shots

i used phtomatix to batch make the hdr, and panorama studio to stitch

so i got myself a one shot lens, much quicker (still taking 3 shots) but the quality is far less

at the end of the day the fees that people will pay will dictate the time you can put into something, and this is something i have yet to find out,

what seams to be the norm in the industry?

Steve

Hey there

I've gone from 0-360 to Nikon FC-E8 to Nikon D300 with a Sigma 8mm and wouldn't go back but I'm not looking at real estate work - I'm mainly doing outside shots so the detail needs to be more but I suppose it depends what you are charging etc. I've always found it a bit like making food - are you aiming for McDonalds or Harrods if you see what I mean.

If thats your first tour we saw earlier then youre doing really well - is it just real estate work you are looking at?

Welcome to the forum btw!

I went the same basic route as above. 0-360, Nikon FC-E9 to Nikon D300 with the Nikon 10.5mm and love it. I take 35 shots, 6+T brackets of 5, batch stitch in Panoweaver5, merge in Photomatix and finish in Photoshop.
For real estate you can get decent quality with the one-shot or the FC-E8 or E9. But if you are after quality, which will have your name on it, then you have to go with the DSLR and fisheye. I made the same mistake as most by purchasing the less expensive stuff and wound up spending twice as much in the end.

i have a canon 40d witch is more than adequate resolution wise with a canon 10-20 lens,

i took my test stitch tour on a canon 20d, same lens, and was very impressed with the results

you say you take 5 bracketed shots, what exposures?

on the canon you can only set a 3 bracketed exposures, so you have to reset bracketing, or over/under expose manually, i found this time consuming, also not being disciplined in taking the exposure sequences messed up any batch processing,

i will add the stitch i did to a basic tour and upload it for your scrunchy

The Nikon D300 will take up to 9 bracket exposures. I just turn the camera around on the tripod and check the meter. I usually use the exposure that the camera says is the correct one for the brightest part of the room. I use a wired remote and hold it down and let the camera do the rest. I use F11.
