Hi all,

Sven I own the equipment you do (that is Nikon Coolpix 5700, FC-E9, MRotator by Agnos.)

The rotator has been in my hands for about 5 days now so I cannot recommend/suggest anything.

  • I called Agnos and they recommended to set up the right level on the first shot only. According to them it is matter of cents of millimiters which makes the bubble go out of range.
  • Maybe it is because my standard as not as high as yours but I really cannot complain with regards to the stitches...

Although I have not pay much attention to the horizontal alignment, photos are most of the time stitching just perfect by using the automatic attachment in Panoweaver.

Sometimes yes, I need to manually amend the attachments but it is due to very small details....  (and the manual stitch is another matter I need to look into....).

For instance, let's look at the following pic. Is it bad?  I am not quite sure... I can see some stictch issues... (se red squares) but hey in the last 2 months I had been trying sticthing pics made without rotator and this seems a dream to me!!

Please tell me what's wrong if you see any .

  • Having said that I did wonder at some point about levelling the camera. What I did was to use a bubble level  slotted into the camera. I set up the system and made sure the Rotator level was aligned:

Then I looked at the bubble level in the camera.I believe the second bubble should give me the horizontal alignment (always relative to the ground and the tripod, of course). For instance the following pic shows the camera before being adjusted (the second bubble lev is out so to me the camera need to be adjusted).

  • One more thing I would like to ask: which focal lenght can you achieve with your 5700? As for me I cannot go any bigger the 11.6 mm (but usually I use 10.7 mm)

thanks dlot

hiya!

Your sample jpg is a little bit too small to see what's going on there exactly. Maybe you can upload a larger img? Well, there is a small glitch, but as far as I can see, it looks ok.

About the horizontal position.... That something complicated - imo.
I noticed when I set up my camera to this: http://www.su-n.de/images/hori.jpg
my pics stitch better than when the horizontal position is set up correctly!
As well as I noticed, that I've problems with indoor shot. It's hard to get pics stiched perfectly, which are taken indoor - maybe because there are so many details (and lot's of them are very close). With outdoor shots, it's better - still not perfect. And as I wrote, only 3 shot panos do well.

Usually I use the focal length of 7.1.( I don't know if it's the same for our Nikon, but have a look: http://www.panoramas.dk/d60/d60tech.html )

Greetings,

Sven =)

Here it is:

with regards to focal length, I do not mean aperture. I think the link you posted explains the aperture concept.

What I refer to is the zooming action prior to shooting as per the precious information in our precious forum...

http://www.easypano.com/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=1&TopicID=440&PagePosition=3

see the snapshot of the value in Nikon viewer

To be honest I do not quite grasp the horizontal alignment issue...

Your system as per pic looks to genial to me....how would you use it?

For instance see the following indoor pic:

I think the result is OK and I did not pay much attention to the alignment issue!

I gave just a rough glance... mmh OK it looks aligned.... let's take the pic!

Ok they do not always come out this way but usually, after having used the Rotator, it all looks like it is a quick manual stiching issue if the result is not that good....

When I do take pics, I prefer taking pics a little bit densed (over excposure). Because, as you can see in my living room, there are very bright and very dark areas.

- About the zooming to get better results: When I zoomed in, I get a real mismatch when stitching!

- Your indoor pano looks very good to me!

I set up a webpage to describe my setup, and my results.

Please have a look!

Sven =)

Hey Sven,

quite clever your set up. Still too tricky for me.

Your MOV pic is impressive and, considering you made a cubi conversion the quality of the picture is just astonishing!
